A founder showed me his ad account last week. The ads were genuinely good. Great hooks, high dopamine creative, a cost per click that was solid.
And almost nobody was buying.
I've seen this more times than I can count. I raised $2.4M and built Filteroff to 250K users and over 2 million video dates before we got acquired, running the funnels and offers myself. Now I do the same thing for other founders as a fractional CMO.
So when he asked me to look at his ads, I told him the truth.
Your ads are only as good as your offer.
He kept tweaking the ads. New headlines, new images, new audiences. Every week, same result…no sales.
The ads were never the problem.
The ad has one job. Get the click. Everything after the click is the offer, the landing page, and the funnel. That's where the sale is won or lost, and that's where almost nobody looks.
Here's what I usually find.
The page talks to everyone, so it lands with no one. It doesn't qualify the lead or speak to one specific person with one specific problem.
The page falls apart on mobile, where most of the traffic actually lives. Tiny buttons, broken layout, a form nobody can finish with their thumb.
And the offer itself is just fine. Nothing about it makes someone pick you over the ten other tabs they have open.
You can't out-spend a weak offer. You can only fix it.
I've done this enough to know the fixes are usually boring and cheap.
One landing page I rebuilt was stuck at 15% conversion. I added logos, real testimonials, and a video above the fold. Same traffic, more buyers.
On another funnel, 70% of people were abandoning checkout and nothing ever followed up with them. I added three emails. The second one had a discount code. We clawed back a big chunk of that 70% with no new ad spend at all.
None of that touched the ads. All of it touched the offer and the follow-up.
So before you change another headline, do this.
Open Manus, or whatever AI agent you like. Point it at your top three competitors.
Have it pull their landing pages and lay their offers next to yours. Price. Promise. Guarantee. Bonuses. What they ask for, what they give, how they say it.
Then run a real gap analysis. Three questions.
Where are they stronger than you? Be honest. That's the uncomfortable part, and it's the whole point.
What are you offering that nobody else is? That's your edge. Put it at the top of the page.
Who is your actual customer, and which of these offers would they pick in five seconds?
Sometimes you find an edge you'd been burying. Sometimes you find out your offer looks exactly like everyone else's. That's fine too. A crowded market just means there's demand. You only need one clear reason to be the pick.
Either way, you walk away knowing what to fix. That beats another week of guessing at headlines.
Most people get this part backwards.
The thing that actually lowers your cost per sale isn't a better ad. It's everything around it. The offer. The funnel. The follow-up.
Take the businesses I run. The front end is cheap on purpose, sometimes as low as $15, just to get the right person in the door. Then an order bump at checkout. Then a one-time offer right after.
That first low price isn't the win. The bump, the upgrade, and the offer after it are where the real money is. A small, easy yes you can build on beats one big ask every time.
Ads are the execution. The offer and the funnel are the structure. Get the structure right and even average ads make money. Get it wrong and the best ads in the world just buy you expensive clicks.
Fix the offer before you spend another dollar driving traffic to it.
What's one thing on your landing page right now that you know is weak but have been ignoring? Hit reply and tell me. I read everything.

P.S. This is the exact work I do as a fractional CMO. I go into a founder's funnel, find the leaks, and fix the structure so the ads finally pay off. If your ads are working but the sales aren't, reply and tell me what you're running. I'll tell you where I'd look first.
Know a founder pouring money into ads that don't convert? Forward them this.
